Creepy Google Street-View Car Indexes Hammonton

Saturday, July 3rd, 2010

Yup, Hammonton is no longer “off the grid.” The jerks at Google have driven the camera car all about town, indexing homes, wireless routers, and who-else-knows-what. It’s all for your viewing on Google Maps.

Just drag the little man on the map zoom tool to a street, and if it turns blue, you can virtually drive down it and peer into your neighbor’s home.

Exit question: Google Street view has caught countless illegal and foolish acts while raping our collective privacy. What did they see here in the (Former)Blueberry Capital of the World?

Code Pink Protesters Block Access to Marines Headquarters In Berkeley ; Berkeley Police Do Nothing

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

First, a little backstory if you don’t know what’s going on in Berkeley for the last month:

The City Council of Berkeley last week voted to ask the U.S. Marine Corps to vacate their recruiting office in town, and that if they chose to stay they did so as “uninvited and unwelcome intruders.”

During debate of the resolution, one council member called the Marines “the President’s own gangsters” and “trained killers.” Another said the Marines had given the country “horrible karma” and said they had a history of “death and destruction.” In a document drafted to support the resolution against the Marines, the council stated: “Military recruiters are sales people known to lie to and seduce minors and young adults into contracting themselves into military service with false promises regarding jobs, job training, education and other benefits.”

Code Pink, an anti-war extremeist gropup, has been protesting the recruitment cetner for over a month. Berkeley City Council gave them a parking spot in fron tof the Marines’ office so they could constantly protest. Yesterday, things swelled to a tipping point when Code Pink decided to physically block the entrance to the center. Police were there, but you can see in the video what they did (or didn’t) do to uphold the law.

The video says it all. Imagine if the following scene happened at an abortion clinic. The protesters would be charged with terrorism:

Apparently Barberio and Petrongolo Already Sworn In

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

Nice pickup by the Democrats’ website today. It’s the middle of December, there’s still another Town Council meeting scheduled, yet two retiring council member’s names have been removed from the website and replaced by Barberio and Petrongolo.

Here’s a snapshot in case our town’s website operators, whoever they are, start acting like adults:

Let’s face it, the Town website has become a complete mockery of local government. It’s not run by the Town anymore. It’s not overseen by the Town. The official town website is essentially run by a political party in as much as this website is run by a member of the Republican Club. It’s really become a big joke, and we at The Vine no longer consider www.townofhammonton.org to be the town’s official website.
