LoBiondo Scores $300,000+ for Hammonton Airport

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

Congressman Frank LoBiondo(R-NJ) announced yesterday that over $2 million of grants have been procured for area airports, with over $300,000 of that going to Hammonton Municipal Airport.

“The grants Congressman LoBiondo has obtained over the years on behalf of the airport have had significant regional impact. Every $1 million spent on airport projects creates $2 million in economic activity in the region including 16 full time jobs,” said Bart Mueller, Executive Director of the SJTA.

Mayor DiDonato thanked the Republican Congressman for the cashola:

“This is more great news for the airport,” said Hammonton Mayor John DiDonato. “The ultimate goal is to do an expansion to the runway and with the Congressman’s support of past and hopefully future federal grants, we will continue to move forward.”

Let’s just hope the runway doesn’t get too big.

Everywhere but Hammonton, Townships Fight to STOP Airport Expansions

Saturday, August 26th, 2006

MyHammonton has been researching airport expansions and will publish a full document in the coming weeks detailing how other Townships around the country deal with airport expansion. Unlike Hammonton’s government, which has seemed to embrace the idea of turning Hammonton Airport into a jetport, most other towns are fighting tooth and nail to stop small airports from becoming jetports.

The Vine will tentatively release info about the project. Here’s two pieces from the research:
 I. A look at Readington, NJ.  Solberg Airport in Readington is private, and the owners wished to expand it into a jetport.  Years of fighting ensued between the Township’s Government and the Solberg family.  Recently, the Township floated a $22 Million Bond to purchase the property or surrounding property in a bid to stop any future development of the airport.  Quite a different attitude than Hammonton’s government!  Read more about the campaign to stop Solberg Airport expansion here.

II. Real Estate Values and Airport Expansions A study was recently published which looked at the decreasing values of homes within a 2.5 mile radius of an airport reporting expasions and increased noise.  The study found home prices droped 9.2% after an announcement!  Within a 3.5 mile band, home prices dropped 5.7%!
