Hammonton Narrowly Beats St. Joe in Leftover Turkey Bowl

Here’s the report from our men in the field at today’s Hammonton v. St. Joe Thanksgiving “weekend” game:

Hammonton won 16-14 on a field goal with 8 seconds left on the clock. Hammonton blocked a St. Joe punt with under 2 minutes to set up the field goal from the 2 yard line.

It was a match up of good lines and St. joe did a good job holding off Hammonton. Hammonton’s backs are clearly the real deal but the line didn’t do a great job against St. Joe.

In the end Hammonton prevailed, but St. Joe gave them a run for the money.

Way to go Estaban, aka “Clutch”! 2 weeks in a row, wow! Hammonton’s line better tighten up next week. This game should not have been this close, albeit St. Joe does seem to kick it up a notch when playing this game. Makes one mad that they lost to EHT, a game we should have won. Nobody in their Group has come nearly as close as we did. If the Devils play their A game, we should take the championship next week. I still like the tradition of playing Thanksgiving morning. Thanks Teams for a great game. GO BIG BLUE!

You’re right. It shouldn’t have been this close… St. Joe’s “fake up the middle sweep right” worked so well, the refs blew the play dead as the “real” back broke free for the endzone as the fake back was tackled. St. Joe causes a fumble on or about the Hammonton 25 yard line, recover the ball, and get the first down signal from the ref covering the play. But somehow, a ref from the middle of the field calls that off, so instead of 1 and 10 for St. Joe at Hammonton’s 25, the Blue Devils keep it.

We did blow coverage on 1 play which resulted in a touchdown, and we goofed up 2 punt snaps. An honest summary of the game is St. Joe beat Hammonton, but Hammonton had more points. I’m interested in what the final stats are.

That would be great, wouldn’t it?
And yes, St. Joe outplayed the Devils. I have to think that the Devils weren’t 100% into this – (looking ahead?). There was a time when this game meant the Cape title, not just bragging rights.

Devils will choke, just like they do at every big game. What is the difference between the devils and the eagles. There is none, they both choke at the big games.

Why would anybody that lives in this town wish the Devils to choke? Makes no sense. I bet even Spike would wish them well.

I agree with you independant, real local football fans want Hammonton to win big and represent our town well against Timber Creek. Some of the loudmouth fans always go overboard but all of Hammonton, including the St. Joe fans, wish Hammonton good luck. Hammonton is the best football town in New Jersey.

    Hey above,
This is a HAMMONTON blog. Why would you even be on here? There is nothing on all these pages that concerns anybody other than HAMMONTONIANS. Even if you have family here, YOU are not a resident. Yea, EHT beat us, barely. They are Group 4, they should kill us.
