It’s third owner in as many years, once again Universal Supply is changing hands.
Stock purchased Universal Supply in 2006, the peak of the housing boom, as it was trying to expand and diversify its business operations. But Stock has struggled since the construction market tanked in 2008. The company entered, and exited, bankruptcy last year. During that turmoil, private equity firm The Gores Group acquired a 51 percent ownership interest in Stock.
Stock bought Universal from its local owners, and is handing it over to US LBM Holdings. No word on how it will affect operations or employment in the local sector.

Many good teachers have quit Hammonton Schools because of failing test scores. The ones who stay are family of board members.

Why are the good ones leaving? Maybe that’s the question we need answered. It can’t be because of low grades because they’re the ones teaching the kids. Has to be some conflicts somewhere.

The test scores are only low in two sub groups why don’t you do your homework before you run your mouth….oh and by the way NO teachers have left there unless they were canned.

This country spends a fortune on education putting a burden on taxpayers and it seems as though it’s not making a difference. The theory with education is that if we pay for teachers and administrators to get high degrees in education so that we can pay them a bigger salary that means our children will learn more therefore they will be getting a better education. That theory doesn’t seem to be working as far as education. However, the theory that the higher the degree the more money you will make does apply. The only problem it that only works in the education field. Most businesses don’t care about you degree beyond a bachelors. The teachers are smart enough to out smart the taxpayers but not smart enough to teach. News Flash then why are we bringing Stockton to Hammonton when the children are struggling to graduate from high school?

Why isn’t anyone talking about Stockton coming to Hammonton and how much it’s going to cost the taxpayers? Or how no one is allowed to use the Canoe Club. Or how the town isn’t getting the grant money that HF said we were getting? Or why all that money spend down the airport and still no restaurant. There are plenty of topics to talk about. I guess we will just have to keep posting here. Why is everyone so quiet?

11:44 pm, The Admin apparently does not see a need to start new threads at a regular basis. I feel he’s turning HF on us.
Anon, 2 subcategories? Yup, 2 out of 4 or 5. that’s acceptable to you? I don’t want to see any, period. I don’t know what teachers are leaving either. But, I do hope they start weeding out the dead wood. AND THERE IS PLENTY OF DEAD WOOD. I hear way too many kids in, all grades, say how some teachers sit back with their feet up texting, or, others let them do homework from other classes, etc. This is not what we need in our schools.

I heard the same thing that all the teachers do is text all day and wear clothes that they tell the kids they aren’t allowed to wear. Then they wonder why the kids have no respect for them. Just think these teachers don’t work more than 6 hours a day, only work 180 days a year with full benefits and make $80,000. a year – not bad for a part time job! Taxpayers need to wise up with the school and with our mayor and council – before it’s too late!

I do know one thing for a fact: Young kids one or two years out of the high school are hired to be subs. Subs DO NOT teach. So if you have kids like mine, who have teachers who are out on maternity leave, they will be replaced by a serious of subs who do not teach. That is one reason test scores are low. We went 2 report cards with no active teaching last year, just subs. I thought teachers were to have lesson plans in advance for subs to follow. That is the way it works in other schools.

In order to be qualified to be a sub I think you have to have 60 college credits. You’re right though subs are called everyday to fill in for teachers who are out. It seems as though these teachers take a lot of time off. I don’t think that a college degree is really necessary to teach the smaller grades. That’s why they need to change the entire system to weed out the lazy people with the big college degrees who can’t teach. Just because you have a college degree doesn’t make you a good teacher. Look how many people home school their kids. Education has become like a doctors office – it’s all about the money and they forget the real reason why they are there.

Teachers without College Degrees? Are you out of your mind? All that would do is just make nepotism more rampant because there would be no minimal criteria to become a teacher. You actually would want a person with just a high school diploma teaching your kids? No thank you. They obviously didn’t like school in the first place to pursue their own education further. As for home schooling, we could argue all day on the pros and cons of it. For me, social interaction and teaching your kids how to deal with different kinds of people is what prepares them best for life. And as for your children getting a good education, parents need to be actively involved and asking questions of your child’s teacher. Teacher’s are like any other employee in that if you hold them accountable and ask questions about waht’s going on, results will happen. My kids have have had great teachers and average teachers. You would be suprised what you get out of average teachers by simply addressing any issues or questions you have with them.

My point is that subs DO NOT TEACH. Precious time is wasted. 60 credits and you get to sit in public school and make $75.00 a day. Not a bad way to make a living while you take a vacation day or sick day from your real job (if you have one). Our district has 4 schools and there is always someone out on vacation, sick, atttending a course, etc. So a sub can actually “work” 5 days a week sometimes. Not bad to not do anything!!!
Yes, like anything else, you take the good with the bad.We have had mostly good, enthusiastic teachers, with very few who should find another form of employment. Alot of the young subs are really too young to be in the high school anyway, the ages are too close and they are still too immature. Alot of them are the kids of the teachers and recent graduates. Some are older, nasty, retired people who don’t seem to like kids much. But, either way, they don’t teach, just babysit.

I agree the high paid teachers aren’t teaching. Like I said before just because you have a college degree it doesn’t make you smarter or able to teach. There are so many people who are good as teaching but don’t have a college degree or not a 4 year degree. College is like a business you buy the books that cost a fortune and they give you busy work to do. I thought college was easier than high school. Bill Gates and 85% of our country’s millionaires do not have a college degree and some didn’t even graduate high school. Most school administrators have doctorate degrees but have no common sense. I just don’t think the qualifications should be based on your last name and your degree.

All my child does is projects. PROJECTS, PROJECTS, PROJECTS. The teachers aren’t teaching. They send the kids home every weekend with a PROJECT!! It’s absolutely awful. The kids sit in school and get nothing done, because the teachers don’t teach. So for job justification, to make it look like they are doing something in class, guess what they do? They assign another PROJECT! The best is when they tell them to get together in groups. Don’t they realize that this day and age that this is virtually impossible to do. There are too many different schedules (sports, dance, etc.). I am tired of seeing my child stuck in the house working on projects every weekend and also stuck doing a group project alone because no one can get together. My child does all the work and the others get all the credit! THATS JUST WONDERFUL!!! When do these kids ever get to be a kid? Every year it’s the same story. Projects need to be limited to 3 or 4 per year. NOT 34! They are also becoming expensive. The teacher’s claim that the students don’t need to spend a lot of money. Sure, they’re not the ones running out to the store in the middle of the night to get last minute supplies. My child is suffering from PROJECT BURN-OUT and it angers me, especially when completing them fallS into the wee hours of the morning. I’M NOT KIDDING! But, of course the teacher will always say he or she gave the students plenty of time to complete it. However, they don’t realize that these same students are working on other projects which happen to be due the same day. There is no coordination at all! There are many times when I just want to call the school and say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH AND MY CHILD WILL NOT PARTICIPATE. I really wish I was able to home school my child, because then my child would be able to have a life. THE TEACHERS JUST DON’T GET IT!
